Description
This is a 2018 (67 registration) VW Caddy Life Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (short wheelbase model, not the Maxi long wheelbase version). It is fitted with the 2.0 TDI engine (the same proven unit used in the Maxi) paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox for smooth and effortless driving. It has had two owners in total and originally started life as a Motability Scheme vehicle, meaning it has been well maintained from new. It is also a vehicle that we sold previously and have since purchased back. It comes with service history, and the last cambelt and water pump change was in 2022 (so the next one is due in August 2027). Finished in metallic red, it has covered just 21,000 miles from new (approximately 2,650 miles per year), making it a low mileage and well cared for example. This adapted vehicle has been professionally converted for wheelchair access by Brotherwood Conversions. The conversion includes a lowered rear floor to maximise internal headroom, along with a lightweight manual wheelchair ramp for easy access. Brotherwood are also well known for keeping the floor as flat as possible, making for a more comfortable journey whilst travelling in a wheelchair. Inside, it is fitted with a secure wheelchair restraint system consisting of electric front belts and manual rear belts, along with a standard 3-point safety seatbelt setup. The layout provides four seats plus generous dedicated space for a wheelchair or mobility scooter. Measurements for wheelchair/scooter – Entry Width – 72cm Entry Height – 138cm Interior Height – 144cm Length – 147cm Please feel free to get in touch with your measurements and we can double-check compatibility, as these figures are intended as a guide only. Additional specification includes electric front windows and electric mirrors. It is also equipped with a reverse camera, CD player and DAB radio. Cruise control is also fitted, making longer journeys more comfortable. The vehicle benefits from five doors including an up-and-over rear tailgate (which does provide some shelter in the rain!), plus driver, passenger and side airbags for safety. Further features include roof bars, privacy glass, and front and rear parking sensors for easier manoeuvring. There are auto lights, air conditioning and Bluetooth connectivity for your phone and audio. THIS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY ULEZ COMPLIANT. THIS VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY CLEAN AIR ZONE COMPLIANT. Please bring your wheelchair or its measurements so we can check the fit with you, and feel free to bring a carer or family member along. Why are wheelchair accessible vehicles so expensive compared to their standard equivalents? Because a wheelchair accessible vehicle is a standard vehicle that has then been specially converted. The conversion involves specialist engineering, such as lowering the floor, modifying the rear of the vehicle, fitting a ramp or lift, and installing safety-tested wheelchair securing systems. These are low-volume, skilled jobs, so they cost much more than mass-produced parts. A standard rear-entry passenger conversion alone can cost several thousand pounds on top of the initial vehicle cost. A drive-from-wheelchair conversion will cost significantly more – into the tens of thousands sometimes as there are more adaptations required. Do you deliver your wheelchair accessible vehicles? Yes. We can arrange delivery around 100 miles from our location and where appropriate we’ll give you a full demonstration of the vehicle and its wheelchair access equipment, including the ramp and securing system. Outside of this area the delivery cost and timing depend on the vehicle and your location, so call us on 0333 200 8593 or use our contact form for a quote. Where are you located? We’re at Kington Garage, Thornbury, Bristol, BS35 1NH. Viewings are by appointment only, including Saturdays. To find us exactly, use what3words: ///noises.eyelid.surprises Are wheelchair accessible vehicles exempt from road tax? Not automatically. A vehicle isn’t exempt from vehicle tax just because it’s a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Instead, some disabled drivers, or people the vehicle is used for, may be entitled to claim an exemption, depending on their circumstances. The exemption can only be used on one vehicle at a time. You can check whether you qualify and how to apply on the GOV.UK website: https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-tax-exemption-disability
